      Thomas Bridle White was a friend of a local smuggler called Mutter. Thom as used to put a cider outside Passaford farm as a sign to the customs m en "to come in for a drink by the warm fire". It was also a sign to Mutt er that the customs men were "Otherwise engaged for the evening". [1]
