Information, as yet not verified, that Emma was baptised at Maldon St Mary on the 13th March 1827 to Joshua and Elizabeth Francis, a merchant of the Hythe. I have used this piece of information as part evidence that the 1841 census is the correct one for this family in that her age as shown matches exactly her date of baptism.

Appears to be identical with the grave stone at Danbury church, where he is buried with his first wife. Full transcription not taken only date of death i.e. 10th August 1880 and aged 72 years. When seen in July 2000 the marble stone was in very good condition.

In the will of Ephraim Francis (his wife's brother), made in August 1894, among other items his son John Thompson Francis is left the six pen and ink sketches by JB Idle belonging to his father at the homestead called "Gay Bowers", Danbury, Essex. A family bible currently owned by Peter Francis of Caterham and apparantly written in by Daniel himself (see Photo L111) shows that Emma was born 23rd February 1822.

In the will of her grandmother (Doc346) Ruth Trussell, made in 1841 and proved in 1843, she is still named as a Francis (presumed unmarried) and left a cash sum of £10.

In her sister Sarah's will made in July 1891 and proved in July 1894 she is shown as the wife of William James Liddiard of an address in Walthamstow and is left the legacy of £100 cash (Doc401).

Assuming the information I have been given on Emma is correct she is buried in Danbury with her first husband, her part of the marble stone reading "In loving memory of//Emma wife of James Brougham Idle//daughter of the late Daniel Francis of Purleigh Essex//and grand daughter of the late James Trussell of Woodham Ferrers//Died 8th March 1919 Aged 97 years//Waiting for the resurection" When seen in July 2000 this stone was in near perfect condition.

In accordance with instructions in her will, she was buried in Danbury with her first husband, her part of the marble stone reading 'In loving memory of/Emma wife of James Brougham Idle/daughter of the late Daniel Francis of Pruleigh Essex/and grandaughter of the late James Trussell of Woodham Ferrers/Died 8th March 1919 aged 97 years/Wating for the resurection'

In her own will made in March 1910 and proving in May 1919 is shown as of Lingwood House, Danbury and leaves property to among others not related, her cousing George Cannor Spurgin( son of William Sprugin and her aunt Mary Francis(1786- ) , her niece Martha Pearson (daughter of her brother Ephraim Francis) and to the children of her sister Martha Howard. Her gross estate was valued at £2586.

LINGWOOD HOUSE - is first described in 1746 as three cottages
> called Tankards. This name is that of a local family. From 1810 - 37,
> John Blatch, surgeon, lived there and it seems to have gone with the
> practice, for when he retired his successor, Dr. Thoml;inson,
> occupied it until 1848. Old residents can remeber the next doctor,
> Dr. Thorpe, who brought many of them into world. All the children
> were afraid of him because he had a very remarkable. Dr. Thorpe
> and his son, also a doctor lived at Maldon but they retained a
> surgery here. From 1868 the house was let to successive curates
> for a number of years.
