Mary is a mystery, her father's surname is different on their marriage certificate, but it lists her as a spinster so unless her mother was unmarried and she took her maiden name one of the two has to be in error.
In the 1881 census her place of birth is clearly Sowton, but in the 1891 census it looks to be Sourton. There is a good match for a Mary Elizabeth Alford father Richard ALFORD in the 1841 census in Sourton. It doesn't look like she made it to the 1901 census so a 3rd comparison isn't available. The age for the 1841 census match would be off by a bit but not a lot.
There is a Mary E Alford b. 1843 Sowton (Lowton in transcription) as a servant in the 1871 census which is likely her.
