I suspect this is Edward Smith MARTIN who was christened on 30 NOV 1834 in Saint John In Thanet, Kent, England and who shows up in the 1871 census as Edward S MARTIN married to a Jane and who's likely marriage is in Mar Q 1864 in Dover.
However I can't prove it other than the proxmity between Thanet and Margate where his younger siblings were born.
