John PURNELL died on 1st February and was buried at High Littleton on 3 rd February 1754, aged 29. He
was born on 9th December 1725, the 10th child of John PURNELL and Ann HUMP HREYS (nee HILL),
married in 1745 Hester LANSDOWN of Wellow and had 4 children, Ann (1746, d ied 1747), Ann (1748, who
married at High Littleton in 1771 Charles SAVAGE of Midsomer Norton and di ed in 1772), John (born 1750,
died unmarried 1839) and Hester (1753, who married at St. Stephen, Brist ol in 1774 Charles SAVAGE, her late
sister's husband and died in 1779). John's widow Hester was buried at Hi gh Littleton on 17th January 1797.]

INDENTURE made 3rd June 1863 between Daniel Charles WAIT Esq. of Bellut on in the parish of Stanton Drew
(1), Daniel Charles Purnell WAIT Esq. of the same place, eldest son of Dan iel Charles WAIT (2) & George
Frederick FOX, gentleman of the city of Bristol (3).
WHEREAS John PURNELL Esq., late of Woodborough House, made his last Will d ated 6th October 1830, in which
he devised all his messuages, lands, estates & premises at Hallatrow in Hi gh Littleton to John WAIT & Thomas
Macaullay CRUTTWELL in trust to the use of John Purnell WAIT & after the l atter's death to the use of the 1st son
of John Purnell WAIT & so on, & in default of issue of John Purnell WA IT to the use of Daniel Charles WAIT for
life & then to his eldest son.
John PURNELL died on 15th October 1839 & his will was proved at the Prerog ative Court of Canterbury on 4th
December 1839 by his executors Ann Purnell WAIT, William Savage WAIT & Dan iel Charles WAIT.
John Purnell WAIT died unmarried on 19th August 1841.
[John PURNELL died unmarried on 15th October 1839. He was born on 20th Aug ust 1750, the only son of
John PURNELL and Hester LANSDOWN. John had 3 sisters of whom only Hester ( married in Bristol in 1774
Charles SAVAGE) had children, namely Ann Purnell SAVAGE (married at Midsom er Norton in 1806 Daniel
WAIT), Sarah SAVAGE (died unmarried in 1855, aged 80) and Hester SAVAGE (m arried at Midsomer Norton
in 1818 George Treweeke SCOBELL of High Littleton and died in 1869, aged 9 1). Of Ann Purnell WAIT's
children, John Purnell WAIT (who died unmarried in 1841) and then Daniel C harles WAIT (who married in
1839 Sarah WILSHIRE and had at least 8 children) inherited the Hallatrow p roperty

A Legacy of £400 to each of my nieces Hester the wife of George Treweeke S COBELL Esquire and Sarah SAVAGE, Spinster.
I give my Mansion House called Woodborough House, with the Coachhouse, sta bles, outbuildings, offices & gardens and my Manor of Woodborough and al so Farm lands, cottages, tenements and estate and premises called the Wood borough Estate, situate in the parishes of Camerton & Wellow, unto John WA IT of Newnham, Glos. Esquire, Brother of the late Daniel WAIT of Bellut on in Stanton Drew and Thomas Macaulay CRUTTWELL of the City of Bath, Gent leman, upon trust to the use of William Savage WAIT, the eldest s on of my niece Ann Purnell WAIT, Widow of the said Daniel WAIT, during h is life and after that to the eldest son of
William Savage WAIT and his heirs and if none to the second son and so o n. In failure of such issue, upon trust, to Daniel Charles WAIT, the seco nd son of Ann Purnell WAIT, and his first son etc. Similarly, on failu re of such issue, to John Purnell WAIT, the third son of Ann Purnell WA IT etc. and again if no issue to Sarah Ann WAIT, daughter of Ann Purnell W AIT etc.
I give to Daniel Charles WAIT my fourth part of the yearly fee farm char ge of £200 payable out of that estate called the Manor of Langford, al so my fourth part of a certain messuage, offices, buildings, farm lands a nd hereditaments at Kennicott in Dunkerton, and also my fourth part of a c lose of land called No Man's land at Wellow, and also my fourth part of t he great tithes arising out of a farm at or near Whiteox in Wellow, la te in the occupation of George MARSH but now of (Crispian?) POLLARD as Ten ant, and out of pieces and parcels of land called the Three Hullox Hill s, Whittle Tyning, the thirteen Acres, close called No Man's land and an a cre of land at Double Hill, all in Wellow.

And it is my Will and me aning that, any person, who for the time being shall be seized of or entit led unto the last devised premises under this my Will, he or she being th en full twenty five years of age, shall and may at his or her discretion g rant one or more lease or leases of the mines, veins and seams of Coal alr eady found and discovered or that hereafter may be found or discovered i n, upon or under the same premises, for any term not exceeding thirty yea rs from the time of granting such Lease or Leases, Provided always that, t he person granting the same shall not waive any sum or sums of money or ot her
consideration whatever by way of premium or foregift for so doing and th at there be reserved by such Lease or Leases unto the person granting t he same & such other other persons, who after him or her shall be entitl ed to the same premises by virtue hereof, at least one full tenth pa rt or share of all Coal landed from the the said mines, veins & seams of C oal or one full tenth part of the monies produced by the sale of the sam e, at the option of the person or persons granting such Lease or Leases a nd such other persons as aforesaid, for the free part or share
thereof.
The Residue of my real and personal estate I give to Ann Purnell WAIT a nd her four children, (that is to say)
William Savage WAIT, Daniel Charles WAIT, John Purnell WAIT and Sarah A nn WAIT, to be equally divided between them, as tenants in common.
I appoint Ann Purnell WAIT, William Savage WAIT and Daniel Charles WAIT Ex ecutrix and Executors.

Parish of High Littleton - The 18th Day of June 1776
Att a vestry this day held in the parish Church of High Littleton aforesai d,
( due notice thereof having been first given), the state of the Bells in t he tower belonging to the said parish was taken into consideration a nd it was then agreed on by us, whose names are subscribed, the majori ty of the paymasters of the said parish assembled at the said vestry. Th at the Tenor Bell shall be immediately taken down and new cast by Willi am Bilbie of Chewstoke, Bellfounder. And the said Will'm Bilbie hath agre ed and undertaken to new cast the said bell and doth engage to furnish t he said parish with a new Tenor Bell, equal in weight to the present on e, on this being allowed one guinea p. Hundred for new casting the old Met tal and on being paid for one Pound of new Mettal on every twenty pounds a ccording to the weight of the old bell, for waste. And which we, the sa id paymasters have agreed to allow and pay him for doing the same. A nd it is further agreed that, if the new bell shall exceed the old be ll in weight, the said parish shall allow the said W'm Bilbie after the ra te of one shilling p. pound for such over weight , and if the new bell hap pens to be lighter than the old one, the said W'm Bilbie shall allow the s aid parish after the rate of one shilling p. pound for such deficiency.
