It was realized after he was born as a baby that he was handicapped. He was crippled in one leg and one arm which is why I believed he was not listed as a pall bearer at Henry Sr. funeral. He was able to work until he retired at the cotton mill in Trenton.

The funeral was held on Friday morning of Henry Francis Lafferty one of the best known and respected residents of the York Road area and of Murray township, from St. Peter in Chains Church. Many old friends and neighbors attended and the cortege was one of the largest seen locally in some time. Bearers included three sons of the deceased man, Frank, Jack, and Harry Lafferty, and Douglas Kinney, John Riddell , and John Alyea.
Mr. Lafferty was born less than a mile from where his late home stands, in a little log cabin which was destroyed only a few years ago by fire. He was educated in Trenton and of the Ontario Business College in Belleville, and was known throughout the Bay of Quinte area. Several years ago his wife predeceased him, and since then he has been in gradually falling health. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's Church, and was affiliated with various social and municipal groups.
Surviving him are four sons all at home, Frank, Jack, Harry, and William; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Colborne and two daughters, Mrs. W. T. Horsley, Trenton and Mrs. W. G. Finlan, Brooklyn N.Y., Rev. Fr. O'Neill officiated during the singing of the solemn requiem mass. Interment was made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Henry was baptised Henry Francis McGUIRE (no parents listed) and his sponsor was his uncle Henry McAuley. He is present with the McGUIRE family in the 1871 census (Francis and Jane) so it is very likely that he is the son of Francis McGUIRE. However after Francis' death he is always listed with the surname LAFFERTY. In his sister Mary's obituary he is listed as her 1/2 brother however earlier evidence would indicate he was her full brother as even though he had taken the name LAFFERTY he was born a McGUIRE. In 1891 census it lists his father as being born in Ireland and mother born in Ontario, that would fit with both his father being James Lafferty or Francis Maguire.
Not with the family in 1881 census, likely match living with a widow Bridget SINNOTT in Cobourg under the name McGuire ***Need to further research this Bridget, possible sister to Francis McGuire, Henry McGuire was informant on her death in 1896. In 1871 census she is a stray with a different surname than the head of household, also William ORR is living with her in both the 1871 and 1881 census. It is likely that in 1871 they are living in the house of James FLANIGAN b. 1840 USA, Hotel Keeper.

When the railroad went through the word is that some money was received for the land which allowed Henry Sr. to possible built a new house and barn on Hwy. # 2. Your map shows the Grand Trunk which is one line but since then there is 3 lines, 2 CNR and 1 CPR. So more land may have been purchased at a later date.
Henry Sr. was known as a business person and was an Apple Farmer which was a popular cash crop on the York Rd. If an individual wanted a loan or a mortgage he could go to Henry Sr. Now when the Depression arrived of course many people could not pay back their loans or defaulted on there mortgage. One such property was the Polley House which was located at Division and Ford Sts. in Trenton. 256
